Dry needling is a relatively new treatment where we use a “dry” needle – one without any medication- and insert it into the muscle. This allows us to target tissues that are not manually palpable, and stimulate trigger points that might be causing pain. Dry needling is effective in helping to relieve pain and improve range of motion, and expedite recovery.
While most patients experience no pain during treatment, some report slight pain as the needle is inserted. We often use dry needling as part of a greater treatment plan, including manual therapy and exercise. It can be effective in treating a multitude of conditions including neck and back pain, rotator cuff injuries, sciatica, plantar fasciitus and many other diagnoses.
